House Speaker Nancy Pelosi steals millions of taxpayer dollars

When the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, they promised the most open, transparent Congress in history. Much like the President, they had no intention of keeping that promise, even while continuing to tell us they are. Recently, Speaker Pelosi said of the health care bill, "There has never been a more open process for any legislation," while other members of Congress indicated the process would likely happen behind closed doors.

That's maddening enough, but even worse is Speaker Pelosi's massive waste of taxpayer dollars. She's been using military flights to ferry her family members around for personal travel, without any congressional presence on the flights.

You may recall that Congress spent a fortune on their recent junket to Copenhagen.
For 15 Democratic and 6 Republican Congressmen, food and rooms for two nights cost $4,406 tax dollars each. That's $2,200 a day - more than most Americans spend on their monthly mortgage payment.

Total hotel, meeting rooms and "a couple" of $1,000-a-night hospitality suites topped $400,000.

Flights weren't cheap, either. Fifty-nine House and Senate staff flew commercial during the Copenhagen rush. They paid government rates -- $5-10,000 each -- totaling $408,064. Add three military jets -- $168,351 just for flight time -- and the bill tops $1.1 million dollars -- not including all the Obama administration officials who attended: well over 60.
It might come as a surprise that the cost to taxpayers for shuttling her family about has been much higher. Judicial watch reports that the Pelosi family's military travel Cost the United States Air Force $2,100,744.59 over a two-year period, including $101,429 for in-flight expenses (read food and adult beverages).

Even more maddening is that the Pelosis are very wealthy, easily capable of paying for this travel without reaching into your pockets to do it.

Why does the Air Force do this? Can't they just say no?

I believe Pelosi must reimburse the military the cost of a coach seat. Naturally, that doesn't even begin to cover what the taxpayers spend to make it happen.

The Air Force can't say no to the Speaker of the House. Ultimately, she controls their budget. She can make it very hard for them to get the funding they need.

Given how she's using them now, it's clear she wouldn't think twice to put her selfish interests ahead of national security.
