Working too hard to make it sound weird

Jodi Arias Trial Puts Mormon Sex Rules in Spotlight

That headline makes the law of chastity as members of the LDS faith call it sound really weird, doesn't it?  The rules are pretty simple:  (1) Don't have sex or anything approximating sex before marriage.  (2)  Once you're married, only have sex with your spouse.

If those rules sound familiar, they should.  They're the rules most of humanity has agreed are a good idea (at least in theory) for several thousand years at least to prevent harmful things like heartache and other emotional trauma, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases as well as other things that often come with a high societal cost like broken homes and single parenthood.

Most people see the sense in those rules even if they have a hard time keeping them personally, so journalists have to work to make them sound weird.
